When you press a weapon in your castle and go to Orders menu, you can give low priority to troops and higher for other options..
The mask icon is probably food or grains, they are automatically used in a battle to win more treasure points. You dont gain too much if you dont have any grains.. Probably

No, seriously, it was observed that weapons usually stop working when a lot of troops are out, but troops not from the beginning of battle, did you check weapon’s orders and relocate garrisons to the lower part of the castle ?
